Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are intelligent, hard working, and caring individuals. 90% of my students come from a very low-income households and face economic barriers daily. 80% of my students are English Language Learners who struggle in English Language Acquisition. The school my students attend is title 1, which means our school receives additional funds from the government to meet the specific needs of the students, such as 100% free breakfast and lunch to all students. These students need additional resources, support, and help their basic needs.
In my classroom, I have students with various disabilities, broken homes, low- income, and battle social-emotional issues.These students need additional resources, support, and help to meet their basic, academic, and social-emotional needs.
My Project
This project will help support children who come from low-income homes who may not have had food in their system for up to 24 hours due to economic barriers, they need healthy snacks and bean bags to have a safe learning environment where they can thrive best.
Students in my classroom sometimes only eat two meals a day.
The two meals are breakfast and lunch, which is fully provided by the school for free due to the Title I funding. Unfortunately, this means that some of my students go over 24 hours without eating each day because their families face financial difficulties were they struggle to provide dinner daily. Studies show that children who are deprived of food are unable to focus or comprehend as well as if they had adequate nutrition. These snacks will be given to children at the end of the day to help fuel their brains to achieve academic excellence and help support a healthy lifestyle.
