At our school, we strive to treat each other with respect, love, and compassion. Unfortunately, these students are in a high poverty, low-income environment, where all of our students at our school receive free breakfast and lunch. I teach 2nd grade in an underfunded, underprivileged rural setting. My students are faced with some challenges in their home life which includes broken homes and sadness.
My students all have such endearing personalities and motivation to learn.
They always do their personal best in our positive classroom community.
My Project
My students come to school ready to learn but some do not have the financial resources to bring a healthy snack to school each day. Although my school provides a healthy snack at lunch and at a cost at recess, I would like to provide them with some healthy choices throughout the day that are appealing to them.
By providing healthy snack choices, I am also promoting smart food choices and promoting healthy eating.
I am asking for pretzels, baked chips, crackers, and more.
We will be discussing healthy choices and foods that are good for our bodies and brains. My students who are worried about where their next meal will come from will have a healthy snack in the evening to take home. They will also have a healthy snack throughout the day.
