Physical education class is no longer your parents' gym class. Times have changed and so has our approach to teaching students the skills necessary to become healthy, happy, active adults.
I teach approximately 800 amazing diverse students throughout the week in elementary physical education class.
I teach 29 general education PE classes and 4 adapted physical education classes each week. My students love to learn through movement!
Physical education class allows my students the opportunity to grow academically, socially, and physically. Although my students may only have PE class once a week for forty minutes, we make every minute count.
My Project
Over the years all of my students have enjoyed learning about the function of the heart. One amazing piece of equipment are pulse bars. We have had ours for years and they have gotten great use. Thousands of students have benefited from the technology and gained a better understanding of how exercise relates to heart rate.
Unfortunately our pulse bars have seen better days.
We have two pulse bars that currently function but will not last until the end of the school year. This project would help fund 6 new pulse bars and three new pulse bar stands. We still have three functioning stands that we can continue to use. By funding 6 pulse bars we would now have enough for an entire group to use at once without students having to share.
Pulse bars allow students, through sensors, to get an accurate reading of their pulse. Students are able to see how different exercises change their readings. They are a wonderful use of technology in physical education classes that are my students benefit from.
