Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We are a classroom community of wonderful 5th-grade students! We have worked hard to build our identity within our school and enjoy working learning together as a whole group. Our school is a smaller neighborhood school within the city of Springfield. Students and families have challenges but when they enter our classroom, they enter a place of love, excellence, and acceptance.
Students need recess time to socialize with peers, practice skills, and just take a break from classroom learning
Many of the children have been in classes together since kindergarten creating many interesting, sibling-like relationships. They both support and challenge each other every day. It is rewarding but hard work building and sustaining a caring learning community. My students meet this challenge every day!
My Project
Students need recess time to socialize with peers, practice skills, and just take a break from classroom learning
Students will be able to practice skills, as well as build their physical stamina and work together while playing recess games.
This recess equipment will not only benefit students today but for many years to come! Learning through play is important at any age, but especially for children who do not have regular opportunities for outside play at home.
Having the ability to play organized games at recess, as well as make up their own games allows students to develop skills that are not addressed in the classroom environment. Playing outside is proven to increase student stamina and engagement while working in the classroom. Physical breaks during the day can increase academic achievement!
