I have a very diverse group of students that are homeless or come from poverty-stricken homes. Many days it is a struggle for them to get to school on time and have their own supplies that are needed to learn. My priority is to make sure that their health, well-being, and learning needs are taken care of. Although these students experience a lot of trauma, they love school and want to learn. We just need the supplies and resources to help make it happen.
My Project
Over the last few years, I have noticed that there has been an increased amount of students that are absent from school due to poor health and nutrition habits. We have more and more students that lack proper dental care at an early age and are also unaware of of good eating habits. I am requesting nutrition supplies that will be taught the first few weeks of school. Some of these supplies include: toothbrushes and toothpaste that will be handed out the first week of school and practiced with, floss sticks that will be a part of our daily routine, a nutrition kit with supporting texts, hand sanitizer to keep our hands clean at all times and outdoor equipment to excite students to exercise.
Students need guidance, support, and simple, daily hygiene items to encourage proper healthy habits that will last a lifetime.
With these supplies, I will be able to teach thorough lessons that incorporate how to brush teeth properly, how to keep our bodies clean and strong, how to pick nutritious options when eating, and how much sleep is needed to help us grow. I plan on reviewing these healthy choices throughout the entire year and my hope is to have a much healthier class that are more ready to learn because they feel great!
