Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach high school students with moderate to severe intellectual disabilities in a Transition Learning Center, which focuses on functional academics, job training, daily living skills and community access/safety.

My goal is to foster independence and develop vocational skills to help the students lead a productive life after high school.

The students in my program participate in these training activities as part of their overall education. They also run a coffee shop for teachers and staff in the school building, as well as prepare mailings for the school. Additionally, they travel to offsite jobs and work with our community partners.

My Project

My project consists of disinfecting and sanitizing materials that will be used daily within the classroom. Flu season is quickly approaching, and many of my students have already been out sick from school with colds. The more sick my students get, the less instruction time they receive. We need supplies such as hand-sanitizer, disinfecting spray and wipes to use immediately within the classroom to help stop the spread of germs.

A clean classroom + healthy students = consistent school attendance and academic success ~ it all adds up!

We are also asking for school supplies such as markers, pencils, paper, and folders. The students in my classroom come to school with very little, and almost all materials are bought by the teachers and staff. Please help us get supplies for our program.
