Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

During the last three weeks of the school year, 30 students will be participating in a course entitled "Healthy for Life". Inspired by a student-led after-school program, this class will focus on physical, emotional, and mental health. It will feature intensive physical fitness at a local community gym, physical activity specialization (yoga, kayaking), healthy cooking instruction, and a variety of other experiences aimed at helping our students understand positive ways to take better care of themselves. Our school community includes over 70% from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. It is our intention to provide legitimate access to personal development opportunities within our students' community. The two featured program elements for which we are requesting funds are: 1. A one-month membership to Healthy Nations Wellness Center (a local community gym) for 32 participants. 2. A one-day excursion to a local Climbing Wall. We would like students to learn to push themselves individually and as a community. We are excited about this new class offered here at Life Academy and hope you can help support these outcomes.
