My students are a diverse group of amazing kids who have goals and aspirations just like most children. However, many struggle with the barriers of poverty, language acquisition, special needs and parents working very long hours. Some of our children have emotional needs and are living in homeless shelter motels that have recently opened in our area.
My high-poverty students strive to succeed, but are limited by the lack of resources available in our small public school environment.
We're trying hard to change that dynamic! Many of my students dream of becoming science and technology leaders. We have some serious-minded, talented students I am certain will master challenges that I would have trouble hurdling.
My students are a constant amazement. I endeavor to support their dreams to the best of my abilities. My kids are the hardest working group of individuals I've been given the joy of educating!
My Project
When a child is hungry, school consists of one very long day, with many hours of trying to be present and attentive. Healthy and protein-rich foods can reduce the hunger feelings by making their tummies feel full longer. With their hunger sensation suppressed with a healthy snack or water, a child can focus their energy on learning without this unwanted appetite distraction. Many of my students come from high-poverty homes and do not have healthy snacks available to them at home on a regular basis.
Our school has been hit hard with flu, strep throat, colds, and viruses galore; these nutrient-rich foods will help to combat illnesses in our school community!
Nutrient-rich food is a basic life necessity and is a life essential for healthy growth in young children both physically and educationally.
My students need nutritional stability several times per day for their growing bodies and minds. With these healthy snacks our students will be able to increase their physical and educational development and help to maintain healthy bodies able to fight off disease-causing germs.
Not being sick or hungry will deepen their learning experiences. It will enable them to have better focusing power. They will be spending their energy proactively learning. In turn, they will become more academically successful and happier in their educational endeavors at school and at home!
