My students need Cheez Its, Kellogg and Nabisco snacks, Nestle bottled water & other snacks to ensure healthy eating. These snacks are healthier than the corner store "hot chips" and juice/pop that they want to consume.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are 4-5 year olds who come from a low social economic background. They attend school in an urban area where going out for recess may be dangerous at times. They are very energetic and eager learners. My students enjoy active play and activities that incorporate learning that is enjoyable. They are ready for early literacy, learning about healthy choices and discussing what they are learning!
My students are new to Prek but they are ready to learn and explore daily!
They enjoy engaging in conversations about things we are learning and sharing their own experiences as it relates (or not) to what is read/seen. My students show interest in going outside of the school to explore a variety of things that include community helpers and different careers. Fun and interesting discussions about their thoughts happen daily! They are intuitive and excited about being in school and experiencing new and exciting things with their peers and teachers!
My Project
My students love to learn and in order to get the most out of the day, they need to be fueled off of the right foods! I have a class full of snackers and I notice that when they eat well, they respond to learning in a more positive manner! My students are used to eating sugary foods and snacks that aren't really "snacks" but instead are unhealthy or too hot (spicy) to ingest.
I would love to have some Cheez Its, fruit snacks, mini bottles of water, fish crackers and other snacks to give to my students as they come/leave to go home for the day so that maybe they'll learn to enjoy a healthier diet and skip out on the neighborhood candy store.
Providing students with healthy snack options may assist parents with identifying a variety of foods to purchase as snacks as well as a healthier way to hold their child over until dinnertime.
