Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach a wonderful group of first grade students in a high poverty, inner city, public school in Indianapolis. My students are the sweetest first grade class ever! My students receive free breakfast and lunch at school each day.
Many students come from homes where it is difficult for their parents to meet their basic needs.
Despite this, they come to school ready to learn and are eager to improve in all their academic areas.
Many of our students' parents work odd hours and they barely get to spend time with their children. I have some students being raised by a single parent or a grandparent. No matter what my students are going through at home, they always try their personal best in the classroom.
My Project
My students use technology for many different learning activities. With the new, clean headphones my students will easily be able to listen closely to each activity without any complications.
As adults, we know how frustrating it can be to not be able to hear something so I want to alleviate that problem for my students.
The students in my class currently share headphones. When they do this, they run the risk of sharing germs and head lice. Head lice is very common at my school and I want to do everything I can to give my students rich educational opportunities knowing that they are staying healthy. Overall, headphones for each of my students will improve the health and hygiene of my students and keep them in school!
Ensuring they can hear clearly will enhance their learning and give them even more opportunities to continue to build skills that will last a lifetime. The headphones will also ensure that students are able to focus on the task they are working on without distraction.
