Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have a school-based nurses office in a low income/high poverty community on the Yakama Nation Reservation. As a low income school we have difficulty being able to provide the right essentials. We make sure the students have everything they need and more. If parents are unable to provide the students with treatment, we offer the families treatment from school. Despite the hard times our students face, they look forward to come to school and are eager to do their best. We take care of our students as if they were our own.
My Project
With the Flu hitting hard this year, I would like to provide my students with the right essentials to prevent getting ill. I would like to be able to provide cough drops for our students with sore throats, Kleenex to wipe away the runny noses and germs, band-aids for the minor cuts for playground scrapes and Clorox wipes to make sure there isn't a spread of germs in the office to other students. It would make a difference in our students attendance if we are able to provide things these essentials. These materials will help maintain a healthy and happy environment.
