Poway Unified School District has launched a new experience for ALL TK-5 graders. This is a new and innovative program aiming to revitalize and emphasize "hands-on" learning in the areas of Physical Education, Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA), and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). A key intention of this program is to ensure all elementary students in PUSD receive the required 100 minutes of standards-based Physical Education per week (grades TK-5).
This experience will touch 17,000 students every year.
X-Ploration needs Physical Education equipment in order the implement Standards-based P.E. We are beginning year four, the students love it when they see X-Ploration teachers walk onto their site!
My Project
Physical Education equipment is vital to teach PE in a standards based model. The X-Ploration model teaches P.E., VAPA and STEM, to every elementary school age student in Poway Unified School District that’s 17,000 kids! We have found with the current climate of technology many students aren’t motivated to get moving outside. With the hoops and balls, students will participate in several different activities. Students set up hoops to resemble a hut (team building) opposing team tries to knock them down by throwing the balls (hitting a target), after throwing the balls students need to run and retrieve them (cardio). We call the activity Death Star Destroyer! The huts are the Death Stars! They don’t even realise how much exercise they are getting!
