Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are second language learners and are in the dual language program. Our school is a Title I school and the majority of my students qualify for the free or reduced-priced lunch program.
Many of my students have been displaced after Hurricane Harvey and are still living with family members or friends months later and are struggling financially and emotionally.
I teach three dual language Pre-K classes made up of 60 students with 50% of the time taught in English and 50% of the time in Spanish. My students have been affected by Hurricane Harvey with family businesses being closed, homes going through rebuilding and families being displaced. My students are ready to move on and learn and with donations made to our classroom, they will be able to accomplish this.
My Project
In our pre-k classroom, students learn best with hands-on experiences and there is nothing like science to make our kids want to be interactive in the learning process.
Science is a favorite of our pre-k students because they get to experience the "magic" of science.
The stethoscopes will let the kids become doctors and listen to heartbeats inside their bodies. The human x-rays will let them play at the hospital center as they learn about bones and skeletons. The food baskets will allow them to sort the different food groups. The life cycle readers and posters will introduce our kids to new vocabulary and give visuals for the life cycle of different animals.
This project will give exciting materials that will introduce the magic of science to our early childhood kids.
