This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach in a title 1, high poverty, elementary school in a high-need community. Regardless of what our students lack economically and academically, they come to school every day motivated to learn. I am just as motivated as them. I will not allow lack of money to be the excuse for our students not learning and growing equal to their peers.
Socrates said, "Education is the kindling of a flame, not the filling of a vessel." My personal challenge this year is to invest in my students academically and personally.
We have to challenge ourselves to meet all of our students' needs.
My Project
If our project is fully funded, It will provide the new beginning that our students deserve. Children shouldn't be worrying about life's essentials not being available to them. Personal hygiene products like toothpaste and soap can make a child’s life a little better. Alan Beck asserted “you can’t do the Bloom stuff until you take care of the Maslow stuff”.
Each student that demonstrates a need for hygiene supplies will receive a hygiene bag filled with soap, washcloth, toothbrush & toothpaste, comb &brush, and a towel to bathe with at home.
The basket will also include a toothbrush and toothpaste to keep their teeth healthy. Degree Dry Protection Antiperspirant Deodorant will be in the basket to keep students fresh throughout the school day, and to fight off dry skin and chapped-lips the students will receive Chap-Ice Lip Balm and Jergens Ultra Healing Lotion to keep their skin moist and healthy
