I need EMDR training and the corresponding textbook to help my students learn the source of their maladaptive behaviors in relation to trauma and find new coping skills.

My students are AMAZING. As the Student Support Counselor, I often am blessed to hear some of the most heart-wrenching stories, and then am able to watch my student persevere through those stories and experiences. We deal with pretty heavy stuff in my office, but my students (or my kiddos as I affectionately call them) know that my office is a safe place for them, and that I am an adult they can truly trust.
My kiddos are 7th and 8th graders, and if you remember that age from your own childhood, you know that it can be quite tumultuous.
Add in social media, as well as typical teenage woes, and you'll soon realize our teens these days are dealing with things we never dreamed of.
My office is a place of warmth and safety for my students. They know they can say anything in there, without fear of being judged. They are encouraged to be honest, no matter how scary that may be. They are encouraged to speak their truth and dig deep, so that we can navigate the hard parts together, and rise above them.

EMDR Therapy can be used with children and adolescents of all ages and is one of the most research based protocols for helping one heal from trauma.
When children are traumatized, have upsetting experiences, or repeated failures, they lose a sense of control over their lives.
This can result in symptoms of anxiety, depression, irritability, anger, guilt, and/or behavioral problems. Events such as accidents, abuse, violence, death, and natural disasters are traumatic, but we do not always recognize the ways they effect and influence a child’s everyday life.
As a school counselor, I often see students who have experienced multiple traumas and need someone to help guide them through a journey of healing so they can return to pre-incident functionability. This training will help me accomplish just that.
After this training I will be able to do focused work with individual students and groups of students so they can get back to focusing on their education and what comes next rather than being stuck in their trauma.
