Our students are truly awesome and special in every way. These students come to our little school from all over the district, and we have two classrooms of all high school ages.
These young adults have suffered from a variety of mental health challenges from personal trauma and are working on attaining their high school diploma, while attending therapy sessions on site.
Due to their emotional past, most of our students would be lost in a traditional high school setting. They thrive in our program, which includes two full time psychologists for support at any time, and individual and group therapy weekly. They feel safe and supported here, where they are able to make progress academically and emotionally.
My Project
If you've ever worked with teens, you already know how difficult it can be to get them to talk - especially when it involves personal feelings. Art is a proven and creative way to distract students from their own fears and hesitancy.
We have seen amazing progress while using various paint mediums with our students in our unique school setting.
Busy hands allows teens to open up, and the opportunity to create and experiment brings pride and ownership. Having these tools at our hands gives our staff yet another avenue to help these fabulous young people heal and become healthy members of the community.
