Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Recently, newly arrived students from Puerto Rico have been enrolled at our school. They are from low-income households and are receiving free breakfast and lunch. They have faced damage to homes and parents became unemployed. Through all their turmoil, they remain optimistic, motivated and ready to learn.
My students recently arrived from Puerto Rico, come from a low socio-economic status, receive free school meals, and have special needs.
My goal is to get students physically moving in a fun and engaging way, as well as, afford them with the opportunity for interacting with peers and get them motivated to learn. My students need tools for physical activities that will stimulate attention, and motivate them to get engaged in learning.
My Project
Newly enrolled students from Puerto Rico have special needs. They come from low-income households and receive free school meals. They have encountered many challenges and obstacles. They lack motivation and interest in learning.
Welcoming and motivating newly enrolled students with dance and fun interactive games is key to healing and bringing back motivation for
We need a Nintendo Switch console, games, and speakers. Games such as Wii Dance will boost my students' self-esteem and motivation by engaging in fun activities that will encourage peer interaction, attentiveness, and improve motivation. Dr. Bloyer, a board-certified pediatric physician states "Evidence indicates that children with disabilities do not meet the recommended 60 minutes per day of moderate to vigorous activity and are 4.5 less active than children without disabilities". Activities such as Wii Dance are recommended for offering children with disabilities opportunities for socialization while improving attention. Let's give all students the opportunity to feel welcomed while dancing, making new friends, and forgetting about their daily stress.
