My students need headphones in the classroom to support learning in an environment where multiple stories can be told to accommodate the range of reading comprehension, a quiet media center, and enhance iPad instruction.
I am entering my 20th year of teaching and every year I have a wonderful group of second graders who come to school eager to learn, make friendships, and longed to be liked! As it is August, I have not met my soon-to-be second graders but I'm eager to see their smiling faces enter the doors this September!
In 2018, our school was recognized by Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) as being a Title I School of Recognition.
This recognition honors success in educating students from low-income families. Our school has high rates of poverty based on free/reduced lunch percentages yet have above average achievement in reading and math based on other schools with similar demographics. Converse won the award for Beating the Odds. This recognition exemplifies the hard work between staff and students.
My Project
Each year I have students who are not equipped to arrive to school ready to learn with all the tools available to them. Our school district alone has over 500 homeless students. Headsets provide resources to meet tasks available to all students. Our classroom has a one-on-one initiative to make sure each child has an iPad in hand. This tech resource challenges them to explore their world, personalize learning, and collaborate. Our classroom invites the district technology leaders into our room each school year to teach and train both teacher and students the latest tech advancements used in classroom learning. Children love these innovative resources!
