Every teacher says it, but I'll say it anyway. My students are best. The group of kiddos I teach this year are special because they have created a safe learning environment where everyone feels respected, and everyone is encouraged to be themselves and contribute their own funds of knowledge to everyday learning experiences.
My students understand that everyone is different, but that is what makes us the same.
A perfect example of this feeling of inclusivity and respect is when one student gave a short presentation on his learning disability. Following his presentation, and in an attempt to make this student feel a sense of belonging, all my students decided to share one thing that makes them different too. Students shared about how they have anger issues, how they have trouble focusing in class, how they feel anxious, and other challenges they face that make their learning experience different from their classmates.
I was amazed at how quick all my students were to share their own challenges and weaknesses. This experience helped my students understand that we all have something we're dealing with, and that it is important to be kind, respectful, and loving towards everyone.
My Project
I want to make the most of my students' time on Chromebooks by giving them nice headsets to use during independent online study time.
The use of headsets would enhance my students learning experience in Language Arts and Math.
In my classroom, the students spend time during each day using the program, Imagine Learning. This program often requires the students to listen to what is being read aloud. As of right now, my students are not able to listen in on what is being read aloud because they don't have headsets. If they did have headsets, their experience on the Chromebooks would be enriched daily, helping them achieve high proficiency scores in Language Arts and Math
