My Students
Students in my classes are those with mild to moderate disabilities that include specific learning disabilities, traumatic brain injuries, autism, and other health impairments, such as ADHD, anxiety disorders, OCD, and ODD.
My students can do hard things!
Some of their disabilities greatly impact their abilities to function in the regular education setting. However, with a stable support system from teachers and parents, as well as the right tools in their toolboxes, they can find success! It is my hope that they will continue to develop the coping skills necessary to be successful college students, and one day, working members of our community.
My Project
Providing noise cancelling microphone headsets will allow my students to access accessibility tools on their school devices, such as word prediction, read aloud, speech-to-text, dictionaries, and other learning tools. This will help them access their general education curriculum more efficiently and discretely, which is part of the law that protects students with disabilities.
Without these headsets, students are not able to use the learning/accessibility tools needed to help them access their general education curriculum.
Providing these headsets will empower students to take charge of their education through a more self-directed learning approach, while still providing the accommodations needed, as outlined by their individual education plans.
