My students are very special and in need of your assistance! Why? Because they come from many different cultural backgrounds and most are First Generation Americans. Their parents often work two jobs, just to pay Silicon Valley's high rents. Or, only one parent can work, due to strict immigration laws for new citizens.
We have Mexican-Americans, Vietnamese-Americans, African-Americans, Filipino-Americans, South American-Americans, Chinese-Americans, East Indian-Americans, etc.
in our class. Most students are First Generation Californians and most are second language learners. Their parents work very hard, but often don't have money for school supplies or current reading materials.
We are located in the heart of East San Jose. Every year, our class learns to accept each other's differences and discover our strengths so students can work as a team to learn and grow, academically, but also morally, socially, and emotionally. They learn mindfulness and the ability to visualize the future they want to create. What they accomplish in 10 months as a team is nothing short of a miracle! The love of learning is contagious and hopefully they all catch it! Our focus is in on Project Based Learning now, so having news on current events will help them find projects.
My Project
My students are using computers more and more in class, which requires either headsets or ear buds. Our District only provides ear buds, which can damage a child's hearing with long term use. Whether it's required Diagnostic tests or Project Based Learning Projects, my students need a good pair of headphones to use while using online resources. Please help me provide each child with their very own pair for the new school year!! This cuts down on sharing listening devices, which has led to lice and cold and flu germs shared between students.
