My Students

My students are curious, playful, energetic, and excited, yet, they are nervous about eighth grade and doing well academically so they can get admitted into a selective enrollment high school.

Because many of my kids have had a sibling with me before, they know my expectations for them.

They do their best to give 100% academically. However, sometimes it is hard when they have responsibilities at home like taking care of younger siblings while parents are working or cooking the meals until mom gets home. Some are being harassed by gang members to join them.

My Project

My 8th graders need to continue working on their speaking skills, and what better way than having them perform on stage to their peers - perform plays, participate in book clubs as they continue independent reading (to improve vocabulary) along with improving their critical thinking skills by assembling 3D puzzles and having fun doing so? Finding creative ways to work on specific skills such as speaking, vocabulary, comprehension, and thinking is not always an easy task for teachers, especially if they are 8th graders so being creative on how one approaches them with items such as amplified microphones, selective books and cool, hands-on puzzles will guarantee buy-in from all! Helping my kids get their hands on headphones with microphones, additional books of their liking and challenging 3D puzzles will help all diverse learners practice mentioned skills in small group settings and enjoy learning in the process.
