Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

This is my first year teaching, and I am excited to get to know my students better. I had the opportunity to meet them and I know that they are determined learners and hard working. The school I teach at is a Title I school with ninety-nine percent of students who qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. My students come from diverse backgrounds, many who are learning English as a second language, and all learning at different levels. Our school focuses on academic success, family involvement, and building community.

I want students to come to school feeling safe and supported.

I do not want them to have to worry about bringing their own supplies.

My Project

We use headsets everyday in class. New noise canceling headsets will allow students to focus on their lesson. Students work on Language Arts skills on the computer for 30 minutes everyday; this is a very important part of their learning and development. Students will be able to listen to their lesson without hearing their neighbors at the same time. This will allow students to be more focused, free of outside distractions.

Healthy snacks keep us on track!

In order for students to learn, their basic needs must be met first. I want to provide students access to healthy snack options. They have the opportunity to try fresh fruit and vegetables twice a week at our school. For the days they do not receive these fresh and delicious options, students will be able to choose a snack from class. In science, our class has learned that our body gets energy from food. We want to make sure we are fueling our bodies with food to keep us on track the whole school day!
