I am an ESL teacher at an elementary public school in Memphis, TN. We are a Title I school with a total of 53 active ESL students this school year. We are all at home doing remote teaching and learning but that will all change in January as some of us will be back in the school building.
Students at our school have been doing distance learning since August 2020 and even with the reopening plans for February 2021, we are still unsure if that is pushing through.
The fluidity of the situation has caused a lot of stress, anxiety, and insecurity among the students.
Students at our school are very eager to learn and respond so positively to opportunities for physical activity, interaction, and socializing. It will be so beneficial for them to have an outlet to be with friends and peers outside of the school environment.
I have been gearing up to offer after school yoga classes to the students at our school and I am really looking forward to us going back to in-person learning this February 2021.
I just know the students will benefit from this physical and mental workout and will help relieve their stress and anxieties caused by all the changes that has happened and is still happening during with the Covid 19 pandemic, social unrest and school uncertainties that they face.
The headset will help me be able to keep a safe distance during our yoga class but still be able to reach my students without having to over exert my voice, which is already strained enough from teaching all day. I just want the experience to be enjoyable and secure for the students so they will really reap the benefits of yoga and will want to keep doing it. I hope you will help me with this goal and I thank you in advance for your support for our school.
