Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
With the rising importance of computer science in society it is critical that we teach our students how to use it. Here at Escalante Elementary, we are striving towards excellence in our use of technology in our computer lab. All of our students (K-6) use the computer lab to learn language, mathematics, basic computer skills, touch typing, coding, internet safety & internet research. The lab is also used for standardized testing throughout the school year and used for after school program activities.
Our students look forward to coming into the computer lab to learn computer science skills, and I look forward to helping them learn.
Our students and our computer lab are in need of some durable high-quality headphones to aid in our computer science education. With these we can ensure that each one of our amazing students can get the computer science knowledge they need to move forward into their higher education.
My Project
Headphones are used in the computer lab for many reasons. They are used for standardized testing, learning programs, and other miscellaneous computer activities. Currently, our computer lab is using headphones that are not high quality, not heavy duty, and they break or stop working partially or completely. We also don't have enough headphones for the 29 computers that are in the computer lab, so some students have to do without them. With almost 400 students using these computers weekly (sometimes more than once a week), most headphones are lucky if they can make it past a year of use. These headphones I have chosen for this project are heavy duty and built with kids in mind. I believe they would be the best fit for our computer lab with the amount of students coming in every week as well as their durability for future use.
With these new heavy duty headphones, students won't have to worry about bothering other students when on the computer because there wasn't enough pairs of headphones for them to use.
Students love going onto the computers here at Escalante to learn, create, and play. I want to ensure that every student and every available computer has access to one pair of headphones so that they can focus their attention, take tests effectively, avoid distracting others, and enjoy their computer time with no worries on whether they will get headphones that day.
