This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
As a teacher in a low-income school district, I have to be creative in engaging my students in learning. They often have distractions that take their attention away from the important learning we are doing in the classroom. As third graders, my students are in a critical year, with the state requiring all third grade students to pass the state reading test in order to move on to fourth grade.
My students work hard all year to make sure they are meeting grade level standards, despite facing challenges from a variety of sources.
Our school is 100% free lunch, and while we are fortunate to have a school that is equipped with basic technology, my students need many more resources to help them achieve their best.
My Project
Every day my students are spending time on an engaging and helpful computer program that works to bring them up to grade level. It catches them up on lessons that they are behind on so that I can focus on teaching the 3rd grade materials they need to learn in my classroom. This program is best with headphones so that they can hear the lesson well but most of my students don't have their own.
Having high quality, durable headphones will allow them to focus on the computer-based lessons.
I am also requesting game sets for independent work time. I see reading and math groups every day, and while there are assignments my students must complete in their independent time, when they finish they are left to their own devices which can lead to misbehavior. Having these folder games from Lakeshore will provide engaging and educational games that they can turn to when they finish their assigned work.
