My Students

I teach at a high school in the Salt Lake area where many students who are economically disadvantaged at struggling more after the COVID-19 economic downturn. They are hard working, but are struggling getting into the ins and outs of daily school life. Many students come from single parent families or both parents are working to make ends. Inflation today, is now making it worse for many families to buy needed materials for their children to go to school and be successful.

Many of my students are eager to learn and are willing to do so if they are given the tools they need to be successful.

My Project

It will allows student to have something to write with in class. The stress of something as simple as buying a pencil in no longer an issue. The headphone will allow student to listen to podcasts and watch videos on given material in class without interruption or distraction.

With basic supplies, like pencils, students will be able to participate in class without worrying about the ability to buy their supplies themselves.

I provide a few dozen pencils to students daily and this cost comes from my own pocket. It is better for me to just provide a pencil than have the student sit and do nothing in class, or stress about the appearance of having to borrow pencil from someone else. It could save some embarrassment.

Teachers are also away sick more often and it is best to provide instructional videos to students. Especially since there is a shortage of substitutes and even if I happen to get coverage, they typically do not have the ability to instruct student on the material. The headphone will provide that without have multiple videos running and distracting other students. Also, student can review material with the plethora of videos I already have.
