My Students
I teach in a high poverty school system in Sheffield, Alabama. One hundred percent of the students in PreK through sixth grade qualify for the free breakfast and lunch program. Our students come from very unfortunate backgrounds. Our school is a major source of love, help, encouragement, and learning for every child. They come to school eager to learn despite the hands they've been dealt in life. Our school system realizes the importance of investing in our students because they are the future.
My Project
The world we live in revolves around Computer Science and Digital Literacy. It is more important than ever to equip our children with technology tools that will help them prepare for this digital age. I am so excited my school's administration sees the need to offer technology classes to all students. Every student, Pre-K through 6th grade, will work with me on digital literacy or computer science projects like programming and robotics each week. However, building this program from the ground up means we are in desperate need of even the simplest tools such as headphones for the computer lab. Our students will need headphones to work on computer skills they need more practice with on an individual basis or to follow auditory directions for specific coding projects.
