I teach third grade at Kensington Elementary School in Georgetown, SC. We have one computer lab that the entire school rotates through within the school day. One of the programs that we utilize in our computer lab is the Success Maker program. It is a program that the students can go on and work at their independent learning levels. They use this program for math and reading skills. Teachers can acquire very beneficial information from this program. Some of the information that is gathered includes ability level, percentage correct, specific skills that the students may be having difficulty with, and also a record of their gains. One of the problems that we are having centers around the effectiveness of the headphones. In order for this software to be effective, the children must be able to hear through the headphones. Being that so many students rotate through the lab a day, the headphones provided are at times not working properly, which causes the students to not be able to answer the questions adequately. I am requesting a class set of headphones (24 headphones) for my class so that when we go to the computer lab, we can carry in our own headphones. With this, it will ensure that my students can work through the Success Maker program successfully and show great gains throughout the year.
