This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I work in a low-income area where many of my students often come from broken homes, reside in group homes or shelters, and are often moved around a lot. Over 85% of our school consists of students who receive free or reduced lunch and everyone receives a free breakfast. And yet they smile! My students are hard workers who love to feel that they have made me proud. We work hard at academics and to encourage self-esteem not only in themselves but also in their peers.
Unfortunately, our students lack in supplies that would allow them to participate in hands on learning.
This project will provide students with supplies to allow them to present a hands on Health and Wellness fair that will benefit them as well as all students in the school.
My Project
My students need headphones for when they are working on the computer. I teach Math and Reading using small group rotations. This allows me to work with my kiddos in small groups of 6 so that I can focus in on who needs help. One rotation is the computer rotation. It allows them to work on the computer to complete lessons that address the standards. Sometimes they need to hear what is being said. Having headphones will allow them to work without disrupting others. This will also allow them to complete state testing with the use of headphones and help keep the room quiet!
