Headphones: Implementing Individualized Instruction

My Project

The use of headphones is a daily necessity in our classroom, especially following the loss of instruction many impoverished students have returned with after the pandemic. Using technology in the classroom has helped us make individualized learning plans for each of our students. For example, I have several students working on learning English while another group is working on learning French or Spanish. The joy and excitement to learn a new language is fantastic.... until we have 28 students in one small space with different sounds coming from their computers. This is why we need a class set of headphones. Technology is only part of our learning environment but without headphones it negatively impacts everyone around you. If we are working in a small group on the carpet but the student struggle to stay focused because the students around them have their lesson playing out loud because they have no headphones. It may sound easy to just request that students be required to have their own headphones but that is not a realistic expectation in a school with 70% of our students living in economically deprived environments.
