My Students

I am a Title 1 teacher in a small rural school. I, and my teaching partner, have many wonderful, smart, hard working students that struggle with reading and math. We teach them skills and strategies as well as provide extra practice for them to improve their reading and math skills. We use computers and a variety of interactive computer programs 2 or 3 times a week.

Since students are working individually on their own computers at their own pace, they have to use headphones.

Working with 40-50 students in a day, and headphones going on, coming off, etc., the headphones wear out in a year or so. We have several headphones that have quit working and many that are falling apart and need to be replaced.

My Project

We use computers daily to teach, reinforce and practice reading and math skills. Many of the programs we use are interactive and rely heavily on sound. Also, many of our high stakes computer-adaptive assessments for our younger students read the questions to students. Since our students work individually on the computer, it is necessary for them to use headphones.

Headphones that function properly and fit well are essential for students to do their best work and have a productive learning experience.

By providing these essential tools, students are provided their best opportunity to thrive and grow when using computer technologies.
