Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach kindergarten at a public school in urban LA County. I have 26 lively five year olds. My kindergarten students come from various socioeconomic levels and various ethnicities. Some are English language learners, and some are students with special needs. Many receive free or reduced lunch. All are excited about being in kindergarten. For some this is their very first time in school as they have never been to preschool. All are excited to learn and be at school each day.
My Project
In my class we love to use technology to help us learn. My students love to listen to books on CD on portable CD players. This helps them learn to read and also reinforces literacy skills. For some that don't get read to home, these stories may be the only ones they hear. They also love to practice their math skills and reading skills on Ipads. This is one of their favorite parts of the day. The Ipads provide hands on, individualized learning: each students gets to learn at their own level and pace. We also have a DVD station where the students get to watch learning DVD's that reinforce math and literacy skills but in a fun, visual format.
All of the technology we use in class requires the use of headphones.
It would be great to have a small group set of quality headphones that were all the same. This would enable the students to use technology without bothering the other students with the noise. Thank you for helping me turn our room into a quiet learning environment.
