Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our 2nd graders are full of energy and excitement for everything - especially listening to themselves! We are very fortunate to have 1:1 Chromebooks throughout our district. They are ready to utilize the technology by recording themselves reading aloud. Some of my students are struggling readers and dread reading in front of the class. Headphones with a microphone will allow students to practice reading out loud which in turn increases their confidence.
Our students come from low-income, hard-working families who value education.
They often do not have the extra money for internet access which puts them at a disadvantage. Parents want the best for their children and provide enriching activities using technology. The classroom is sometimes the only time they have to explore the internet. Headphones will be especially helpful for those students with Special Needs. They will provide them with an opportunity to focus - free of distractions!
My Project
All our students need to be prepared and experience learning without limits. My Special Education students specifically need headphones to assist them in uninterrupted reading to hear their own voice - especially those in Speech Therapy. The headphones will also be used for independent internet research, videos, online practice, assignments, and activities that require audio.
Headphones are the key to helping struggling and reluctant readers allowing them the freedom to overcome their embarrassment to read aloud.
Students deserve to have an opportunity to intentionally listen to their own voice while reading aloud. Additionally, headphone keep the classroom quiet without disturbing others. Headphones are a great tool to control the overall noise in the classroom as students are all reading aloud. This is especially helpful for those students diagnosed with Attention Deficiencies.
