Science and technology are fun! There is an endless current of excitement and a buzz of discussion that ripples through my classroom. A typical day in my classroom centers around hands-on learning, discovery and exploration. My students are interested in learning about science and technology, both in and out of the classroom.
Our magnet school community consists of families from throughout the district but the majority of families come from our immediate neighborhood.
The students in my school come from disadvantaged backgrounds. We are a Title 1 school and 53% of our student population receives free or reduced lunch. My school has a concentration in science and technology, with every grade level specializing in a specific field. Our students become mini biologists, geologists, botanists, physicists, environmentalists and zoologists. Our students are inquisitive and excited to learn about their community and how it is part of a unique ecosystem.
The diversity of our population lends to many interesting discussions and affords everyone the opportunity to learn more about the world, individuality and how to come together as a community. My position is unique and I get to interact with more than half of my school's students on a weekly basis.
Chromebooks in the classroom are great for enriching science for grades 3-5 and for teaching first grade technology. Trying to learn isn't so fun or easy to do when the classroom is a confusing blend of sounds coming from up to 30 computers at once! These amazing headphones are kid friendly, noise canceling, comfortable, adjustable and contain a microphone and volume control switch right on the cord. What's not to love about them? These headphones will make learning more comfortable and completely individualized as there will be no competition from neighboring computers. Students will be able to enjoy distraction-free technology.
