I have been blessed to be in the presence of amazing first-grade students in a predominately African-American, Title I school. About 90% of the students that attend this school are eligible for free or reduced-priced lunch. Many of my first grade scholars come from homes that may not have the means to invest the time or money in the education of these wonderful children. There is so much potential to be realized and developed in my students.
Every day I find it a privilege to be in presence of such eager and willing learners!
My students can't wait to come into class and read or be read to. Their desire to read at such a young age is incredibly inspiring and I am excited about the opportunity to provide them with more resources to engage in.
Resources requested will make a significant difference in my students' learning in that many of the items selected allow for students to practice the skill they are being taught. Through The Visualize Math Write and Wipe Boards students will be provided with hands-on opportunities to independently practice math problems in order to solidify concepts being taught.
When students are allowed to learn in a way that is not intrusive by others mistakes are not as embarrassing to them and confidence soars.
Through a class set of headphones, students will be able to hear and practice fluent reading on their own terms.
Research has shown that effective and efficient instruction is enhanced by an organized classroom. The book bags will provide students with an opportunity to have a plethora of books at their fingertips as they circulate the classroom during small group activities.
