Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, I serve students who are faced with challenges both in and out of the classroom. I try to provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences that will help create independence. My students have Autism, learning disabilities, and Emotionally Behaviorally challenged. Many of them are Language and Speech Impaired and demonstrate behaviors linked to those who are unable to communicate or express their emotions.
My students need good headphones that they can use daily for I-Ready lessons.
My Project
The headphones will be used for our students' iPads for instruction, informal assessment, research, project-based learning activities, and much more. Our students are required to complete I-Ready lessons on a daily basis in order to collect data. However, most students come to school without anything, because they say that their parents are unable to afford them. In addition, this year, our school is working on new projects through Verizon, and each student must have a pair of headphones.
All students are required to bring headphones for the FSA state assessment and are in desperate need of them.
The state assessment is done in small groups and on the computer. There are many audio components to the exam, which require having a headphone. This grant would help the students in so many ways. My plan would be to keep the headphones locked up in my classroom at night and hand them out during advisement to ensure safety.
In my Critical Thinking class, my students are researching the countries of their family and typing them in Word. However, from there, I would like to have the students record and put their research into presentation mode. This also would require headphones during recording. I am so looking forward to obtaining headphones for ALL these reasons and hope that you like my project. Thank you.
