My students come in every day raring and ready to go! Our day always begins with several hugs and exciting news that they have to share with me. To be surrounded by children who love you despite your flaws, can't wait to see you every day, and think you hung the moon is the greatest gift in the world!
The majority of my students come from high poverty homes, and many don't have Internet access at home.
It is not uncommon for students to come to second grade on a first grade level. Because of this, it seems that we are playing catch up for most of the year.
Luckily, I teach in a wonderful school where teachers are willing to share resources and do whatever it takes to help students achieve success. Although many of my students are facing various challenges including broken homes, being raised by grandparents, and high poverty, they are very motivated learners.
My Project
My great group of 2nd graders needs new headphones. We use a great program called I-Ready that grows with each student and helps them learn where they are at in their learning. My students work on these fun and educational lessons while I meet with our reading groups. We currently have 7 sets of headphones that students have to share in our classroom. All too often students are coming to me because their neighbor's computer volume is too loud. There are all these lessons going on while I'm trying to meet with a small group of kids to work on their reading abilities. We sure would like less noise around us while trying to read!
