Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Students at Alvarado Elementary come from a variety of backgrounds. We are special because we are a dual-immersion school and teach in Spanish and English depending on the language track families choose. While the school is in Noe Valley in San Francisco, we also serve students from the Mission and have a strong Latin American and multi-cultural identity. Overall, we have about five hundred and thirty students with about thirty percent Socio-Economically Disadvantaged, thirty percent English Language Learners and forty-five percent of our students speak Spanish. Our school has strong connections to the arts as well. Bay Area artist (and Alvarado mom) Ruth Asawa, started an arts program in the sixties that reached fifty schools at it's peak, and the arts are important to us.
My Project
I am hoping to have a good set of headphones for the computer lab. For the past two years, we have purchased inexpensive headphones. Each year, at least half of them break and I end up throwing out / recycling them and buying more. We are an environmentally conscious school and less waste is important in our ever-changing world.
The headphones we have now are way too big for the little ears in kinder and first grade.
My wish is to have a decent set of nicely adjustable headphones that will last more than a year (maybe even two or three years). Please help me make this happen!
