Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students walk into the classroom full of life, ready to learn, and excited for what is in store for them that day. Every day we tell ourselves we are kind. We are smart. We are important. We celebrate our mistakes because we know making mistakes "makes our brains grow" My students see themselves as readers, writers, mathematicians, scientists, sociologists and artists.
I teach at an elementary school where 60 % of our students get free and reduced lunch.
Most of their parents have not graduated from high school and speak another language other than English. My students have not been exposed to vocabulary, language and life experiences others may take for granted.
My Project
We are so glad you decided to look at our request for headphones.
Our teacher tells us that we have to build our stamina to become Superstar Readers.
To build our stamina, we read to ourselves. We read with a partner. We listen to reading. We know that when we listen to stories we learn new words and build our vocabulary. We will use our headphones to create a quiet classroom environment where everyone can work on becoming Superstar readers.
Our parent can't help us. It's not their faults. They work really hard and come home late . They don't always have time to read to us.
Please help us with our goal of becoming Superstar readers by building our vocabulary and reading comprehension as we listen to stories.
