I am a middle school teacher who has been teaching for 12 years. I have taught multiple grades and multiple different subject areas in this time.
Our school is located in a city where approximately 60-70% of our students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch.
The 6th grade students in my class are diverse in their cultural backgrounds as well as their academic abilities. I have a wide range of reading abilities. We have students who receive special education services and English Learner services. These students are eager to learn, despite their many challenges.
Students use technology everyday and they sometimes need to work independently. Working independently requires the use of headphones to hear the audio. We read books independently and sometimes the students who do not read at grade level listen to the text online. Some students read below grade level, so having the text read to them helps them understand what is being read.
There are online science videos that students also watch that enrich the content that we are learning about.
When students are able to work on their own, they can work at their own pace. They love to work on their own and use technology!
