My students need headphones to supplement their learning in my 1:1 technology classroom. Many of my special education students benefit greatly from audio to help promote fluency in reading.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Middle school is bar none, the most awkward time in a person's life. Think about it- your entire body is changing, you're struggling to form your own identity while trying to fit in with your peers. Adding to this pressure, you have to navigate a new school that feels more confusing than JFK airport, all while juggling the expectations of multiple teachers and classes. It's a lot to manage, and I keep this perspective in mind when teaching my students about world cultures.
Now more than ever, students need to understand what it means to live in a global society.
Keeping cultural perspective in mind is the key to creating more empathetic citizens. I am fortunate to work at school that offers 1:1 technology to our students. This means every student has access to an iPad during the school day. Such technology has allowed my students to travel to the Pyramids at Giza or the Catacombs with a click of a button. I also work in a Title I school serving a large immigrant population, and such technology affords us an avenue to include our diverse cultures in our lessons.
My Project
In a special education classroom, headphones allow students who require an auditory learning accomodation to receive this without disrupting the learning of their fellow classmates. Usually, I or my co-teacher may need to read passages aloud to students. Headphones allow them to take control of their own learning and access assistive tech features available to them on their iPads. It also frees us up to help more students!
Headphones allow students to work more independently in the classroom.
I can have a group of students reading a passage or watching a video on their iPad, while I work with another group. It's almost like having an extra adult in the room.
