Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

Our school is a quaint little public school in the city, one teacher per grade. We are a Title One school which means that the majority of our students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. During this pandemic, we are learning virtually. I teach 4th and 5th grade English Language Arts. My students are eager and willing to come to class during a pandemic. We are a family school. Parents send their students here because they went here.

The majority of my students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch.

That does not mean, however, that their parents don't work. Some parents are underemployed, working several jobs with a household of students in various grades.

My Project

Often students have challenges hearing what is happening in our "classroom". Having a quality set of headphones helps students to stay focused during distance learning, especially when scholars have siblings learning on-line as well.

There are so many distractions during distance learning.

One of my students is "houseless" and is living in one room with the entire family. Another family is living with relatives and there are about five other scholars as well. Often I have to remind all students to focus on their own screen. Headphones will help us lean into learning during class time.
