My Students

My kids are 11-13 year olds who are in the sixth grade. I love sixth grade because the kids are trying to figure out who they are in this world. They are developing their hopes and dreams for the future. Many of my kids have already suffered years of reading failure at this point in elementary.

I love being able to work with struggling readers who have given up, and helping them realize they can read!

The smiles, hugs, excitement, shouts of "YES!" as they see their reading levels grow are fantastic!

My Project

We need 10 of the 2BOOM HPM380B Mixx Over-Ear Headphones with Microphone so the kids can hear what "great" reading sounds like. Many of my kids did not have the opportunity as a young child to have someone read to them. They need to hear what fluent reading sounds like, so they can learn how to do it. They will have the opportunity to listen to highly engaging texts, as well as record and listen to their own voice. By improving their fluency, their comprehension will also increase. This will then impact their reading across all content areas (science, social studies, reading, writing).

By donating to my class, you will help a child improve their reading level, as well as open new opportunities for future dreams they have.

I do not have the budget money to purchase more headphones with mics, so this donation will make a huge difference to my kids.
