The students in my school are incredibly special. They are typically from the lower ends of the socio-economic totem pole and face challenges that transcend school every day. My classes, specifically, are struggling readers who come in with the determination to not just be better readers/writers, but better students and people.
They know they already are at a disadvantage and they continue to fight.
In one of my classes from last year, a student with a stuttering problem made a goal to improve her speech through the reading class. She was so embarrassed to speak openly with the class. By the end of the year, she was speaking with great fluency and minimal stuttering. She returns this year to continue her work and finally make it to being a grade level reader.
I am asking for help to acquire specific headphones.
These headphones are used for children who have trouble reading to interact with the Read180 computer application.
This application uses spelling, recording, and writing strategies to improve abilities. Students use the program to record themselves and hear how they sound. The program then responds with tips and strategies to assist in growth. It is super successful.
Currently, my school system is having financial difficulty. Due to this, replenishing specific technology equipment becomes an impossible task. I am asking for assistance because the headphones we currently have are breaking down from over-usage. Replacing them will help facilitate learning through the program and improve our young scholars' comprehension.
