Headphones for Literacy

Help me give my students headphones so they are able to access online programs that support their reading fluency and comprehension. These programs give my students the practice they need to be able to read at grade level.

My Students

My students live in a suburb of Salt Lake City where they attend a Title I school. This means they come from low-income households. Many of them are first-generation Americans whose parents moved here to provide better opportunities for their children. Even though my students live within 20 minutes of downtown Salt Lake City, many have not spent much time out of their neighborhoods. Their parents are working multiple jobs and don't have the time or resources for leisure activities.

My students are enthusiastic learners who are curious about the world and are anxious to prepare for their futures.

They persevere on assignments and are always striving for better grades because they realize education is their path to success. My students have many obstacles in life, but they don't make excuses. They always work to the best of their ability as they prepare for middle school and beyond.

My Project

The headphones will give my students the ability to access online reading programs in the classroom. This practice will help them become proficient readers, which is essential for them to learn as they move to the upper grades. The headphones allow the students to concentrate on the lesson.

Since many of my students are English language learners, they need extra practice to reach mastery of the skills needed to be able to pronounce words and understand them.

Also, my students may not have someone to read with at home, so that adds another obstacle to reaching their full potential. This is why I need to make sure the students have the opportunities at school each day.
