My students include 8th graders whose families have chosen to attend a charter school focusing on Arts and Personalized Learning. They come from all around the southern areas of San Diego County.
I love knowing that I'm building the next generation of artists, performers, and thinkers.
I want to be able to provide them each with the environment and resources that they need to grow and thrive.
There are so many students that can be truly engaged in their learning thanks to arts integration. Some of my students are wonderfully talented at fine arts, dance, or music, and some of them are just beginning to cultivate an interest. My goal is to help each of them reach their fullest potential by constantly integrating art into their learning.
My 8th-grade class is a self-enclosed classroom. I teach Math, Science, History, and English but I am also the supervisor for our "Board Games & RPG Club" as well as "Student Council."
My Project
My students need headphones to help focus while learning, as well as to open up learning opportunities like podcasts and videos. We received a set of headphones in a previous year, but there still aren't enough for each student to use headphones simultaneously. Although some students can bring headphones from home, I would like for all students to have the opportunity to listen to music while they work independently, or to make learning choices that attune to auditory learning styles.
Now that we have one to one laptops at my school, headphones will allow them to use their current technology to its fullest.
These headphones will last for multiple years and give me more choices for creative, effective lesson plans. Finally, they will give ELL students an opportunity to utilize text-to-speech programs to better increase their comprehension & engagement.
