My students need 20 headphones to complete English Language Arts computer lessons. They listen to the lessons and then repeat words and sounds and need to hear themselves.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Everyday in my class, students are challenged to push themselves to be academically at or above grade level. This is a difficult task for many as they come from families where Spanish is the primary language. Many are "at risk" and lack resources at home.
We are a Title I school located in the Salt Lake City area.
The majority of students are second language learners. Their home lives are tumultuous and many have only one parent and this parent usually works full-time. The rate of student turnover is above 30% from year to year. This means that some students are moving schools multiple times a year. Our school provides breakfast, lunch, and after-school programs to students who need this service. We also provide dinner for these students. Our goal is to provide a safe, respectful and responsible learning environment.
My Project
One of the ways we reinforce and teach English skills is through computer-based learning. Students participate in reading and comprehension activities on programs like Imagine Learning and SuccessMaker. These programs use audio as well as visual reinforcements. These headphones will allow multiple students to use these programs at one time as stories are read out loud and students are asked to repeat words and phrases to help in learning English and comprehension skills.
My students currently have 10 sets of headphones.
Some are broken and as a result not everyone has a pair to maximize their learning experience on these programs. Having enough for the class means that everybody will have the opportunity to experience and perform on the program.
