Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach a kindergarten class in a Title I school. There are around 25 students in my class who love to read, write, participate in number talks, math groups, and learn every day. They come to school ready to learn and they are excited about new opportunities.
Being at a low-income and high poverty school, my students face several challenges daily inside and outside of the classroom.
One of my goals is to have a comfortable and safe environment where my students feel like they can be their creative selves all day.
My Project
This year has proven to be challenging all over the country. One of the challenges that we face is if our students will be learning in person full time, on a hybrid schedule, or all eLearning.
Each of my students has a Chromebook, but they need headphones to help give them the best learning experience in school or at home.
Whether we are in class or at home, my students have many distractions throughout their learning. If we are at home, my students have siblings that are also trying to work through eLearning, as well as parents possibly working from home. By giving them access to headphones at home, this could help them listen to Google Meets easier as well as other eLearning activities with videos and sound. If we are in class, with social distancing a requirement, my students oftentimes listen to books through Epic, work on Imagine Learning for math, and need headphones to be able to hear their instructions rather than the small group next to them.
