Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our students come from a diverse range of cultural and economic backgrounds. We have a well-established dual-language Spanish program and the majority of our students receive Federal Free or Reduced lunch. Our school was established over 60 years ago and there is a strong sense of community that ties everything and everyone together. Many of our parents and teachers attended the school themselves. Even our school principal is an alumna!
Above all, our students are kind and compassionate.
Everyday I witness small acts of kindness between students that build and maintain our strong sense of community. Our campus exudes a warm familiarity and students are eager to smile and say hello to both their peers and their teachers. It is a privilege to work within such a kind and caring community.
My Project
Our computer labs are seriously underfunded and we are experiencing an extreme shortage of headphones for students. I have purchased several sets from the dollar store to try to make do, but they are flimsy and break easily. Our students use the labs everyday to complete State mandated tests and to work on technology lessons that prepare them for citizenship in the 21st century. The students do the best they can with broken headphones, but I believe they could do even more if given functional headsets! I would love to be able to present them with high quality headphones at each computer. What a difference it would make!!
I can imagine the students' and teachers' delight if they came into the labs to find functioning headphones!
